Way overdue.. Paris Guide!

Last spring I was in Paris yet again, 4 amazing days in one of my favorite cities and probably the city I have visited the most times. I promised you a guide, buuut it never came! So now you are finally getting it, a guide on what we did, what we ate and where we lived. Maybe some of you are going to Paris this fall (lucky you!) And can use some ideas for what to do in the city. And hey if you have any questions, just write to me: *

WHERE WE STAYED

We stayed at Hotel Emile in Marais. Here we have actually lived once before and we were so pleased with it, that we chose it again. Most hotels in Paris have crazy small rooms, so have that in mind. In addition, breakfast is not a thing they really use, so when it says it’s inclusive breakfast is my experience that there is coffee and a croissant. Hotel Emile has some super cool (but small) rooms that are really beautiful and new, the breakfast is as in the picture, not flashy but the perfect base before going out and walking for a whole day! The hotel’s upsides are clearly the price, the location and the rooms.

The hotel is in 5-10 min walking distance from Notre Dame and located in Marais which is filled with delicious restaurants and small shops. A really cozy and good area to live in! We have previously lived in the Latin Quarter, which is a bit cheaper but has fallen in love with Marais which I really recommend.

WHERE WE ATE

Hotel Costes – Ligger helt i centrum.

La favorite in Marais – Our hotel was just above it and we had heard about the place from several people. It’s a really good place to drink drinks, especially their spritz which are big and delicious! We also ate there, their burger was super good but the place is not as classic French as other places but more modern.

Au Bourguignon du Marais – This was also 5 min from our hotel (and 5 min from Notre Dame) and we had googled it and seen that it had received good reviews. Here we got the beest dessert, delicious profiteroles, the place was super cozy and classic french! (Just across the street was a super cozy and really nice bakery which is also worth a visit!)

Chez Janou in Marais – A popular place where you need to reserve a table! We had heard about it from many people and therefore tried it. Our starter (a tomato and mozzarella dish) was absolutely genious and our dessert was crazy good. They are known for their chocolate mousse that comes in a huge bucket for the table and that you just eat off, the portion is so big that we did not even come halfway with it! Really nice and a nice atmosphere!

L’as du falaffel in Marais – The best falafel place where there is always a queue because it is so popular! Be sure to look up the opening hours as I think they are closed in the weekend (oddly enough)! We sat and ate them on a bench close by and then ate crepes afterwards 😉

L’entrecote 271 boulevard periere – One of the oldest restaurants in Paris. They only serve 1 thing! You start with the salad and then get this meat with frenchfries and sauce. There is always a queue outside (and you can’t order a table) and their sauce recipe is secret and what they are known for. Fun place to try and they of course only spoke French!

Hotel Costes – Located right in the center. Clearly the most expensive place we ate and the food did not live up to the price. The hotel and location did though! I would recommend drinking coffee and eating cake there! It is Kim Kardashian’s favorite restaurant in Paris (so I of course had to visit it) – Everything is in French (again) and we didn’t understand the menu card which was uber complicated. A small quiet and super beautiful oasis in the middle of the city.

Pink Mama in Montmatre – I loooved this place and will really recommend it! Not French but Italian, but still, you have to try it when you are there! Sit on the top floor if possible (see my first pictures, the place is super cute), we ate some different starters and then the truffle pasta, everything was delicious and quite cheap. The most beautiful rooms and very photo friendly 😉

WHAT WE DID

We have been there a few times before and so we didn’t choose the major tourist attractions which ended up being a good choice. The last time we were at Louvre there were so many people, which ruined the experience a bit. This time we instead visited the museum d’orsay, which was really good! There you can see some of the famous Van Gogh paintings. Eventhough it’s centrally located, there are not as many visitors and you can therefore easily see and experience the paintings, and the museum is in an amazing building with some fantastic ball rooms! In addition, we were at l’orangerie which is a small museum of Monet’s waterlily paintings, this was absolutely amazing to experience, it was my favorite museum despite it being so small and definently worth a visit! You can buy a complete package and get cheaper access to both museums.

The other times we’ve been in Paris, we’ve visited Versailles, Louvre and all the big things that you need to see, but if you travel in some of the holidays or popular seasons,  I would recommend waiting with these places as there are a lot of people and a long wait to everything. Notre Dame, however is almost a must for us and we visit it everytime we are there. Come in the morning right when they are opening so that there ain’t so many tourists. I am completely amazed by the beautiful church and it is probably my favorite I have visited so far.

On this trip we walked the whole way from Marais up to Montmatre and visited the Moulin Rouge. Here we sat and drank coffee out front and talked about the place that I had to see after watching the movie about a hundred times. Montmatre is not a place I would like to stay in Paris, but a nice place to go for a walk and experience, and it’s an area where there are so many new and delicious restaurants that are a bit more modern.

I’m not really a shopping person when we travel and I almost never buy anything because I need more time to think about the things I see. However, we always walk Rue Saint-Honoré thin as so many of the big designer stores are there and I still want to go into all of them, even though I do not buy anything 😉 On this trip, however, my beloved Celiné earrings came home with me!

My best tip to experience Paris is to drop the metro as much as possible and walk around the city, there are so many beautiful streets and cafes that you only experience if you go from place to place.

If you have any questions, please just write me, I have visited the city a few times and would love to help, and should you have a good tip yourself, please write it in the comments field: *
